Power Springs
Power springs for
controlled retraction.
Spiral springs wound from strip, formed to your drawing in Rayong, Thailand. The strip stores energy as it is tightened and releases it through a defined rotation — retracting a cable, returning a mechanism or driving a small assembly.

Energy stored in a spiral
A power spring is a strip wound into a spiral. One end is anchored to an arbor, the other engages the housing. Winding the mechanism tightens the spiral; letting it go returns a controlled torque over a defined number of turns.
The drawing defines the strip, the arbor, the outer end and the torque the mechanism needs. We form the spiral, heat-treat it in-house and check the finished spring against those numbers before packing.
- Spiral springs wound from strip to the drawing
- Hook, loop, eye or straight outer end
- Arbor and housing dimensions taken from your drawing
- Prototype, pre-production and volume orders
Where stored rotation does the work
Power springs suit mechanisms that have to retract, return or stay tensioned without a motor — wherever a cable, cover or arm has to come back to a known position.
Power spring specifications
Power springs are defined by torque and turns rather than by load and length. Current capability is shown below; sections outside it are reviewed at RFQ.
| Parameter | Capability |
|---|---|
| Strip section | Thickness and width reviewed against the drawing at RFQ; the forming route is confirmed before quoting. |
| Materials | 65Mn, 72A, 82B and 60Si2Mn carbon spring steels; stainless steel 301, 302, 304 and 316. Other grades reviewed on request. |
| Outer end form | Hook, loop, eye or straight end, as defined on the drawing. |
| Arbor and housing | Inner and outer engagement dimensions taken from the drawing. |
| Torque | Checked on a torsion testing machine against the torque stated on the drawing. |
| Heat treatment | In-house stress relief and tempering. |
| Surface finish | Anti-rust oil, electrophoresis (E-coat), zinc plating, nickel plating, spray coating. |
| Dimensional inspection | 2.5D vision measurement and dimensional checks against the drawing. |
| Corrosion testing | Salt spray testing for plated and coated parts. |
| Quality system | ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. |
| Samples | Prototype and pre-production samples against drawing. |
Please state the working turns, the torque at the wound position and the space available for the spring, arbor and housing. These three numbers decide the strip section.
Materials and finishes
The strip grade follows the torque, the number of cycles and the corrosion exposure of the mechanism.
65Mn · 72A · 82B · 60Si2Mn
Selected for high torque in a compact housing, with the fatigue life matched to the duty cycle of the mechanism.
301 · 302 · 304 · 316
Used where the mechanism sees moisture, outdoor exposure or cleaning, subject to the torque and strip section required.
Oil · E-coat · zinc · nickel · spray
Anti-rust oil, electrophoresis, zinc plating, nickel plating and spray coating are available. The finish is chosen for the environment the spring sees.
Torque checked against the drawing
Torque, dimensions and material condition are measured in-house before shipment. The inspection and test plan is agreed at RFQ.
- Raw material tensile strength and metallographic structure
- Torque testing on a dedicated torsion testing machine
- 2.5D vision measurement of spiral and end form
- Salt spray testing for plated and coated parts
- Fatigue testing for cycle-life validation
- Inspection records agreed at RFQ

What to send with your drawing
A power spring is only right when it fits the housing and delivers the torque the mechanism needs.
- Available space: outer diameter, width and height
- Arbor diameter and outer anchor detail
- Torque at the wound position
- Working turns and duty cycle
- Strip material, thickness and surface finish
- Annual quantity and delivery schedule

Power spring questions
What is a power spring used for?
A power spring stores rotational energy in a spiral strip and releases it over a controlled number of turns. It is used where a mechanism has to retract, return or stay tensioned without a motor — cable reels, roller mechanisms, door hardware and similar devices.
Can you make a spring to fit an existing housing?
Yes. Send the housing and arbor dimensions, the torque required and the working turns. We confirm the strip section and end form against that space before quoting.
How is torque verified?
The finished spring is checked on a torsion testing machine against the torque stated on the drawing, and its dimensions are measured with a 2.5D vision system.
What strip sizes can you produce?
Strip thickness and width are reviewed against the drawing at RFQ. For round-wire products, our current production range is 0.08–8.0 mm.
