the part does.
Purchasing searches by use — “this one holds the seat rail”. The product catalogue is organised by process — compression, extension, torsion. The two directions rarely line up, so this page indexes 14 uses instead, each with the common form, the material and the failure point worth watching.
Seat frames and rails
Frame tension springs, rail return springs, lumbar support springs, headrest lock springs. The real problems are noise and fatigue life; end treatment has to be settled at the sample stage, not after volume starts.
- Form — extension / compression
- Material — SWP-B, 65Mn
- Watch — noise, fatigue fracture
Suspension and damping
Large-wire compression springs and bush inner springs. The constraints are the wire diameter limit, shot peening and free-length stability after heat treatment.
- Form — large-wire compression
- Material — 65Mn, spring steel
- Watch — permanent set, free-length drift
Latches and hinges
Torsion springs, retaining clips and limit springs. The torque window is narrow, and the feel must repeat batch to batch or the assembly line starts picking parts.
- Form — torsion / retaining
- Material — SUS304, music wire
- Watch — unstable assembly force, losing preload
Seat belt retractors
A power spring provides the retraction force. The difficulty is the force curve as the belt is pulled out, and how much of it is left after years of use.
- Form — power spring
- Material — spring steel
- Watch — retraction force decay
Oil and fuel pumps
Relief valve springs, return valve springs and internal pressure springs. They live in hot oil or fuel for years — lose a little force and the relief point moves with it. In volume production in Rayong today.
- Form — small-wire compression
- Material — 65Mn, SUS304
- Watch — load decay, relief pressure drift
Pump heads and spray
Return springs, valve springs, actuator springs. Each part is weighed in milligrams, and consistency across millions of pieces matters more than the difficulty of any single spring.
- Form — return / valve spring
- Material — SUS304, SUS316L
- Watch — force window drift, seal failure
Compressors and refrigeration
Valve plate springs, wave springs and retaining rings. High-frequency cycling makes fatigue and dimensional precision the main constraints, out of proportion to the part size.
- Form — valve plate / wave spring
- Material — SUS304, spring steel
- Watch — high-cycle fatigue, dimensional precision
Power tool switches
Trigger springs and brush pressure springs. The force curve matters more than the initial load — as the brush wears down, the spring still has to press.
- Form — trigger / brush pressure spring
- Material — music wire, phosphor bronze
- Watch — force curve decay over travel
Valves and sealing
Relief valve springs and disc spring stacks. Set pressure depends on the spring, so force tolerance, permanent set and stress relaxation are the core measures.
- Form — compression / disc spring stack
- Material — SUS304, SUS316L
- Watch — set pressure drift, seal failure
Motors and bearing preload
Wave springs and retaining rings provide axial preload. At the same load, a wave spring takes up far less height than a compression spring.
- Form — wave spring / retaining ring
- Material — SUS304, 65Mn
- Watch — insufficient preload, ring escape
Batteries and connectors
Touch springs and contact strips. Contact resistance and insertion life carry equal weight, and the surface finish drives stability more than the base metal does.
- Form — touch spring / contact strip
- Material — phosphor bronze, SUS304
- Watch — poor contact, insertion life
Appliance doors
Refrigerator door torsion springs and hinge return springs. The door has to hold at an intermediate angle — not swing open on its own, and not feel stiff.
- Form — torsion / extension
- Material — SUS304, music wire
- Watch — opening angle drift, feel deteriorating
Moulds and fixtures
Heavy-duty compression springs for mould return and fixture clamping. High cycle count and high load, so material and heat treatment are chosen together.
- Form — heavy-duty compression
- Material — 65Mn, spring steel
- Watch — fatigue fracture, early collapse
Surgical instruments and precision mechanisms
Biopsy forceps extension springs, snares, guide wire spring tubes, return springs. Fine wire and small parts, where scrap rate matters more than unit price.
- Form — extension / guide wire spring tube
- Material — SUS304, SUS316L
- Watch — geometric deformation, cleanliness failure
